Hyundai is going to introduce its first electric model car in the form of Kona SUV in India by the end this Year. Hyundai Kona is expected to be locally developed by Chennai based plant. Hyundai India will invest around 7,000 crores, to set up the production for Kona EV. This will increase the production capacity of the plant by 1Lakh units and will create 1,500 new jobs.

The Hyundai Kona will be the first electric car in its league to come with two battery options – the longer-range 64kWh and the small capacity 39.2kWh unit. While the former offers a range of 470km from a single charge, the latter one delivers 300km of range. The torque (349Nm) and top speed (167kmph) figures of both the batteries are the same. The 39.2kWh and 64kWh produce power worth 133bhp and 200bhp respectively. Hyundai confirmed that they are in contact with local manufacturers for battery supply. If needed, the batteries could also be imported from China and Korea.

Hyundai will launch the electric version of SUV in India that will target eco-friendly car buyers. The Indian Government is also planning to switch to full-electric cars by 2030. Hyundai Kona EV Prices are likely to start at Rs. 20Lakh for entry-level and Rs. 25Lakh for the top-end model

Similar to the regular model, Hyundai Kona EV electric carries bold and sporty and most of its styling bits with the former, what marks the difference between these two models are closed front grille, 17-inch alloy wheels and slightly tweaked bumpers and spoiler. The dual-tone exterior, featuring black roof and C-pillar are other highlights on the SUV. Additionally, it gets a spate arrangement for foggy conditions, turns indication and reversing. The SUV also has a spoiler with an integrated LED brake light.

Hyundai new electric SUV with several comforts, dual-zone climate control and 8.0-inch touch screen system (5.0-inch as standard).  This is for the first time in the Hyundai car gets a Display Auto system that supported connected services in smartphone sync using Apple Car Play and Android Auto. Hyundai SUV comes with a wireless smartphone charging pad. There is an eight-speaker sound system, a 10 way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry, and other several features.

The top speed of both the battery packs stands at 167kmph. The lithium battery pack can be charged up to 80% in minimum 54 minutes from the 100kw fast charger in long-range form and maximum 9hr 40min and 6hr 10min from a standard AC power plug for the long and short-range versions.

While Hyundai currently lacks a seven-seat model in this price range, it would be better if it thinks of bringing a seven-seat version. The SUV sitting on a generous wheelbase that offers a decent knee room, headspace, and legroom for the front and rear seat occupants. The seats are wrapped with leather with a comfortable experience.

Scheduled to launch next year, the Hyundai Kona will be the first electric car from Hyundai in the country.  It will be brought here in India as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kit, and then assembled in Hyundai Chennai based plant.
